Wałyaqił is dedicated to creating a nurturing and supportive haven for our most vulnerable community members. Each tiny home is thoughtfully designed to provide not just shelter, but a sense of security and belonging. With 24-hour support staff available, residents can feel at ease knowing help is always within reach.
Our community features essential amenities, including a well-maintained laundry facility and clean, accessible showers and toilets. Each of our 30 tiny homes is comfortably outfitted with a cozy single bed, a functional desk and chair, and a mini fridge for personal snacks and beverages, all within a climate-controlled space, equipped with both air conditioning and heating. Every unit offers privacy with a locking door, allowing residents to retreat to their personal sanctuary.
Wałyaqił goes beyond providing just a roof over heads; we foster a vibrant community through weekly programs and engaging activities aimed at enhancing our residents’ well-being. These opportunities not only promote social connections but also encourage the development of vital life skills, empowering individuals on their journey toward stability and independence.
At Wałyaqił, our commitment to our residents extends beyond the presence of two dedicated support staff members available around the clock. We are proud to offer access to cultural support and the invaluable services of an on-site Mental Health Counsellor, who visits our community daily and as needed to provide guidance and assistance.
In addition to our in-house supports, we recognize the importance of collaboration and actively welcome our esteemed community partners into our village. These partners enrich our residents’ lives by offering their expertise and services to our shared clients. Among them are the Island Health teams, including the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Intensive Outreach and Recovery Team (IORT), Community Care Nurses, Hospital Outreach Program (HOP) team, and Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) specialists. We also value the contributions of an important partnership with the Ministry Outreach Worker, Victoria Nookemus and the CAT Team Peer Workers, who play an important role.
Thanks to these strong partnerships and our compassionate support staff, Wałyaqił has transformed into a warm and welcoming community. This vibrant atmosphere has captured the interest of many in the area, including both unhoused and housed individuals who express a desire to join our community and experience the unparalleled support and sense of belonging that Wałyaqił offers crucial role in supporting our residents.
