Child Care Centre: ʔiiḥmisuk t̓aatn̓aʔis “Treasure Our Young Ones”

Treasure Our Young Ones Childcare Centre (ʔiiḥmisuk t̓aatn̓aʔis ) opened on January 23, 2017.  We are an extremely busy child care center and also have a very active Out Of School Care Program, both of which run five days a week. We are at near-capacity with spaces going fast. We currently have 5 full time teachers, two ECE Assistants and one Centre Manager.  Also on staff are our two Elders who share their extensive knowledge and fluency of the Nuu Chah Nulth language. The Language nest employs one facilitator/teacher and a support worker. Our Nuu-Chah-Nulth language immersion program (based on available funding) includes circles, drumming, dancing, art, stories  and time with  our Elders.  Other daily activities include planting with the children in the community garden next door, cooking activities, nature walks, art and science activities, field trips, circle time and so much more.

Volunteers: The Port Alberni Friendship Center is always seeking Volunteers to assist with a variety of programs.  Please see Shelley Poole or Michelle Shiner at 250 723-8281 if you are interested in Volunteering and they will assist you with your application.
